Employment Assistance, A Source of Hope During Economic Turmoil
By Sekou Ideraabdullah
Since October 2008 New York City residents have faced an unprecedented rate of job loss sending many families into poverty. Even during the ‘boom’ year’s, high unemployment rates were a reality for a large percentage of those who reside in nearby public housing. The economic crisis and crash on Wall Street has further depressed their ability to secure gainful employment.
IMANI HOUSE’s Job Assistance program serves as a rare beacon of hope taking a holistic approach in response to job seekers needs. We provide resume creation and revision, on-going job searches, free resume faxing, information on interview tips and dressing for success, referrals to other employment/training agencies, email account set-up and training, access to our computer lab and more. Job seekers also may participate in our other programs including our Food Pantry, after school programs, Adult Literacy ESOL and GED programs and referrals to other social service agencies.
Due to limited funding, our current hours of operation have been decreased. We now operate Monday- Wednesday 11 am to 3 pm.
